Precision. Resilience. Audacity. Drive. Admiration. Excellence. In the pursuit of innovation where diversity of thought is highly valued, Dr. Priscilla Bowens, the VetLawnarian©, brings a rich background as a veterinarian, healthcare corporate counsel, sports enthusiast, public health advocate, sought-after speaker and published researcher.
In her role as legal counsel, business advisor, and brand supporter, Dr. Bowens helps cause- driven individuals and businesses exceed corporate, stakeholder, and societal objectives by providing leadership counsel, advice on commercial agreements, animal and human healthcare businesses, risk management, technology, marketing, sports regulations and brand management, and compliance expertise.
As a veterinarian, Dr. Bowens developed broad leadership experience leading diverse teams in the rigorous, compliance-based practice of veterinary care as a small animal practitioner (general practice and emergency medicine and surgery). And now, she is back in the hospital as a relief veterinarian to El Paso veterinary hospitals.
During the early stages of the pandemic, she co-hosted M.D. + D.V.M. © , a One Health medicine show on YouTube, with her cousin, a human neurologist where their goal was (and still is) to share information about the connectedness of humans and animals in order to save the world.
Throughout the course of her career, Dr. Bowens has written several articles on topics including the opioid epidemic, food safety standards, and human healthcare service delivery models. She has also given presentations in the United States and abroad on technology, RT-PCR techniques to determine levels of fungal toxins in human food and animal feed, board rules compliance, practice mitigation risk reduction strategies, and diversity, equity and inclusion. She was honored to be named a Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation in 2023, one of the highest honors that can be bestowed upon an attorney as a member of the State Bar of Texas.
She is the proud wife of Dr. Antonio, head of the Veterinary Neurology and Neurosurgery service at the El Paso Animal Emergency Hospital and proud mom to two beautiful, smart, athletic girls. Priscilla has played tennis since she was introduced to the sport by her parents at five years old, where, growing up, Monica Seles was and still is her favorite tennis player. Priscilla eventually played Division II tennis and has since coached her daughter’s junior tennis team and volunteered at the WTA Finals in Fort Worth. She is an avid sports fan and has attended numerous sporting events including an NBA finals game, two Sugar Bowls, the Cotton Bowl, The Miami Open, Basel Open, BNP Paribas Open, and many middle school, high school and college track and field and swim meets, and tennis, golf, soccer, and volleyball games. She lives by the words,
“To whom much is given, much is required.”
